Laugh at the Fuel Pump
Lower Your Fuel Costs

Here are some little things that you can do to make sure that you get the best fuel economy from your Detroit Diesel engine.
The Turbo Compounding Boost
With Detroit Diesel's turbo compounding technology, you save fuel without sacrificing power, making it the best way to battle today's soaring fuel prices.
Hot exhaust (which is normally thrown away) turns a turbine wheel that boosts your engine's power. This lets you squeeze more energy out of your engine, and leaves you with a smaller fuel bill.
But the really amazing part is that turbo compounding also delivers up to 50 "bonus" horsepower. When you burn less fuel and get more power, can you really say no?
More Power, Less Fuel
You read that right: No more choosing between weak pulling power or painful moments at the fuel pump. Detroit Diesel engines give you amazing driveability and up to 5% better fuel economy than the 2007 DD15 engine.
Shift Less, Burn Less
A wider torque curve means less shifting to maintain speed up and down small hills, or in gusty conditions. And less shifting means better fuel economy. As one of our test drivers said, "It just ate up those hills."
Use Only the Fuel You Need
Detroit Diesel engines offer a fuel economy boost by injecting only the precise amount of fuel needed for a particular speed, acceleration, altitude, and grade. Several times per second, the MCM (Motor Control Module) measures how far down you've got the hammer, and provides the perfect amount of fuel.
More Heat, More Efficiency
An improved cooling system, and a change in thermostat placement, allows Detroit Diesel engines to kick on the fans only when needed. This prevents engines from losing up to 40 horsepower, and saves you from burning extra fuel.
Amplified Common Rail Fuel System

The Amplified Common Rail Fuel System (ACRS) improves performance throughout the torque range and allows fine-tuning of combustion to reduce emissions, noise, vibration and fuel consumption.
Detroit Diesel engines offer one of the highest compression ratios in the industry, and when combined with the ACRS, you get impressive overall performance.
The "amplified" in ACRS means full injection pressure capability is achieved by amplifying engine fuel rail pressure internally in the injector. This electronically optimized fuel delivery actually changes the duration and the quantity of every injection, to every cylinder, every second the engine is performing. This creates incredibly effective combustion for each and every revolution. This maximizes your performance within the cylinders, and reduces deposits like soot and carbon, resulting in fewer Aftertreatment Device (ATD) regenerations. The bottom line is that all your performance demands are always being met: power, fuel economy and emissions.
